Special Needs & Developmental Counselling

Supporting Every Child. Nurturing Confidence. Encouraging Growth.

At Lumiora Psychological Centre, Special Needs & Developmental Counselling provides a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment for children and adolescents with special needs to express their emotions, understand their experiences, develop confidence, and navigate everyday challenges.

Every child is unique, and their emotional, behavioural, social, and developmental needs may differ. Children with special needs may experience challenges related to communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, behaviour, learning, self-confidence, relationships, or adjusting to everyday environments.

Our counselling approach focuses on understanding each child as an individual and providing support according to their unique circumstances, abilities, and needs. Through age-appropriate counselling, supportive conversations, appropriate psychological techniques, and collaborative guidance, we help children and adolescents develop healthier coping skills, emotional awareness, confidence, and positive ways of responding to challenges.

Who Can Benefit?

Special Needs & Developmental Counselling may be suitable for children and adolescents experiencing:
  • Emotional or behavioural difficulties

  • Difficulties with social interaction

  • Low confidence or self-esteem

  • Emotional regulation challenges

  • Adjustment difficulties

  • Learning-related emotional or behavioural concerns

  • Communication-related emotional challenges

  • Difficulties coping with changes or everyday situations

  • Challenges in relationships with family or peers

  • A need for additional emotional and developmental support

Support for Parents & Families

Supporting a child with special needs can also present unique emotional and practical challenges for parents and families. We provide supportive guidance to help parents better understand their child’s emotional and behavioural needs, strengthen communication, and develop supportive approaches that encourage positive growth and well-being.

Our Approach

We provide a child-centred and compassionate environment where children and adolescents can feel heard, respected, and supported. Our approach is guided by professional ethics, confidentiality, respect for individual differences, and evidence-informed psychological practices. Where appropriate, collaboration with parents, caregivers, educators, and other relevant professionals may also support the child’s overall well-being.
